FDA CREATES NEW POST, ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP CHANGES

FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach hsd announced the creation of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. The office will be overseen by Janet Woodcock, who served most recently as the FDA's deputy commissioner for operations. John Dyer will become the agency's deputy commissioner for operations and chief operating officer (COO).

Woodcock was formerly director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and has "significant experience" in the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, von Eschenbach said.

Dyer will concentrate on strengthening the management, business processes and information technology of the agency, von Eschenbach said. Dyer most recently served as COO for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Prior to his position at the CMS, he worked in the private sector for information technology and executive leadership companies.
