ADVAMED HOLDS LOOK-AHEAD DISCUSSION

February 27, 2007

Device industry leaders are pushing their priorities on several key legislative fronts as the new Congress kicks into high gear.

In a press conference Feb. 27, AdvaMed officials discussed their priorities, which include:

Negotiating reauthorization of the Medical Device User Fee and Modernization Act with "improvements" to the law;

Helping the FDA refine postmarket monitoring and product performance communications; and

Pressing for legislation to advance health information technology, secure "appropriate" reimbursement for remote patient monitoring systems and improve reimbursement for clinical laboratory services.

The association also will work to restore imaging cuts implemented by the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 and aggressively prepare for anticipated changes in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System proposed rule, AdvaMed President and CEO Stephen Ubl said.
