WOCKHARDT WINS APPROVAL FOR GENERIC ANALGESIC

March 20, 2007

Wockhardt announced it has received FDA approval to market generic painkiller tablets containing a combination of dextropropoxyphene napsylate and acetaminophen in the U.S.

"Wockhardt is the world's largest manufacturer of dextropropoxyphene, and our products based on this drug are sold all over the world," Wockhardt Chairman Habil Khorakiwala said.

Dextropropoxyphene combinations are potent analgesic drugs and are widely used to control various kinds of pain, according to the company.

The tablets will be manufactured at the company's FDA-certified formulation plant in Aurangabad, India, and the active ingredient will be manufactured at an FDA-approved facility in Ankleshwar, India. Wockhardt USA, the company's wholly owned subsidiary, will be marketing the product in the U.S.

This approval marks Wockhardt's 16th FDA generic approval. The company said it currently markets 15 products in the U.S.
